The MediSmart solution includes a plastic patient card, the size of a credit card, which embeds a microprocessor – or computer chip. It can capture the patient’s complete electronic health record (EHR) - personal and biometric identity; emergency contact information; medical history, current medical conditions and treatments; benefit status/insurance information; and up to 15 other applications. In addition, MediSmart provides credentialing and authentication through similar cards for doctors and administrators. MediSmart also draws on its experience with biometric projects around the world to add optional fingerprint readers that can better identify patients. In addition, MediSmart offers PIN-enabled contactless readers. The Backbone
MediSmart’s software module, SmartLink, connects the card readers and biometric fingerprint readers with other health IT platforms at the healthcare provider. Drawing on its ability to utilize standards-based communications (HL7, CCR, CCD), SmartLink can map data to/from legacy health IT systems and integrate with them.
