Chip and Operating System
Modern identification documents contain electronic chips to provide a new range of features and applications that are now available with the advance of technology, such as:
- Superior security based on strong cryptographic methods
- Large storage capacity for multiple Biometric information
- Perfect personal identification using personal Biometrics
- Quick Processing enabled by electronic verification of identity
- Additional functionality such as ePurse, eGov, transportation
Chip and Operating System Selection
OTI offers chips for all document types: Electronic passport, electronic ID, electronic Driver License, etc. Chips can Common Criteria EAL4+ certified.
OTI supplies its own Hercules Operating System, Java-based OS or other OS. OTI’s Hercules Operating System is heavily tested and certified for compliance with leading standards such ICAO, EU.
OTI can supply inlays with its own chip and OS or using chip and OS from other sources. OTI’s software systems support many types of chips & operating systems for ePassport applications.
OTI supplies the chips in both forms, as finished documents or integrated into Inlays.
ePassport
The Hercules Operating System has been thoroughly tested in certified laboratories and interoperability sessions and found to be compliant with the ICAO and EU standards, as well as being compatible with other readers and systems
· The ePassport booklet cover is comprised of two layers, which are identical in size and are bound together with glue; these layers form a monolithic structure around the Contactless IC and the antenna, which provide the Contactless IC and antenna with physical and solvents / chemical protection:
- An inlay - white Teslin sheet containing embedded antenna / Contactless IC assembly.
- A booklet cover – inlay attached to a Vinyl / Cloth / Paper booklet cover.
- An inlay is assembled from two layers of durable material. The Antenna and the chip are placed in the middle of the two layers.
- The lay assembly consists of 2*1 or 3*1 sheets. The inlay material is used in the entire booklet cover.
- No deformation in module area.
- Highly precise chip placement and accurate material alignment
- Inlay sheets
Hercules Operating System features
- ISO 14443 type B compliant protocol
- Block based protocol (T=CL)
- Ability to support buffer size of 1024 Bytes
- Supported Baud rate: up to 848 Kbps.
- ISO 14443 parts 3-4 compliant
- ICAO standard compliant
- Basic Access Control (BAC) security scheme for privacy protection
- Extended Access Control (EAC) security scheme for privacy protection
- "Active Authentication" to protect from identity fraud based on RSA and Elliptic Curves (ELC) algorithms
- Variable file size – ability to support files larger than 32KB.
- Supports encryption methods such as DES, 3DES, RSA and ELC.
- Supports HASH functions.
- E-Passport holder verification is done using passwords and cryptographic authentication, which provide a high level of security. E-Passport booklet authentication is based on symmetric and asymmetric algorithms, data integrity, data confidentiality and digital signatures.
- The Hercules OS makes full use of the Contactless IC security features to ensure maximum protection against attack on the Contactless IC. The OS protects against writing and reading from unauthorized sections of the memory, utilizing the Contactless IC's unique firewall infrastructure.
- Hercules OS supports encryption/decryption methods utilizing Contactless IC crypto coprocessor and libraries.
- PKI with 3-DES diversified transport key operations
- PKI certificates on the Contactless operating systems conform to X.509 standard.
